The Snowies are the legacy of an ancient ice age millions of years ago that saw glaciers carve valleys, glacial lakes and impressive granite forms. Much of the high country, such as the Kosciuszko Plateau in NSW has distinct granite formations. These granite bodies erode slowly have formed plateaus and ridges with large boulders, tors, and granite outcrops.
