Painted Hills
Early morning light spills across Anna Creek Station’s Painted Hills in remote South Australia. The Painted Hills is a rocky outcrop of large and small hills that emerge suddenly from the flat desert landscape. The patchwork of colours on the hills is a result of oxidisation. The deep red is caused from the oxidisation of iron in the rocks, while the white sections are where the iron has leached away.⠀
